Grotto House is a small house on a small steep lot. The project brief asked for a simple house, bordering monastic. We organized the house around a central entry courtyard open to the sky above. A lower level concrete block guest room serves as the main structural support for the second level, along with some additional concrete block retaining walls. A third level master bedroom is focused into the private, rear area of the site. The natural, untamed landscape will remain, lending a raw quality to the overall composition of the site.
